José Antonio González Anaya took office as Pemex’s Director General

Following yesterday’s appointment by Mexican President Peña Nieto, Pedro Joaquín Coldwell, Secretary of Energy and Chairman of the Board of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), presented José Antonio González Anaya today as the new Director General of the state-owned productive company.
 
Mr. Coldwell highlighted that the new Director of Pemex has distinguished himself for an admirable performance in preceding appointments. Additionally, he noted that in these volatile times he will have the full support and backing of the Ministry of Energy.  Finally, he wished him success in this new task.
 
Mr. González Anaya thanked the President for his appointment, which he considered the most important of his professional career. After noting that Pemex faces major challenges in light of the international oil and gas environment, he stressed that the company has the talent and commitment of its employees to grow for the benefit of Mexico.
 
During the presentation ceremony, held at the Pemex Executive Tower, Mr. Coldwell also expressed his recognition to the work carried out by Emilio Lozoya Austin during the past three years, who in turn, acknowledged the support given to him by the Board of Directors, the executive committee and the employees during his tenure.
 
Mr. González Anaya holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master’s Degree and PhD in Economics from Harvard University.
 
From 1996 to 2000 he worked at the World Bank as Senior Economist.  Later, he was Head of the Latin America research program, and professor and researcher at Stanford University. In 2002 he joined the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) as Unit Head of Insurance, Securities and Pensions.
 
From 2006 to 2012, Mr. González served as Undersecretary of Income at the Ministry of Finance (SHCP), and from the beginning of President Peña’s administration until February 8th, 2016, he served as Director General of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS).
 
Mr. González has published several works on economics and public policy.
