PEMEX submits its Unit Development Plan for the Zama field to the National Hydrocarbons Commission

  • ​​​​Zama is considered a strategic project by Petróleos Mexicanos and the Mexican government.

Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) reports that today the Unit Development Plan (UDP) was submitted to the National Hydrocarbons Commission (NHC) for formal approval, jointly with the companies participating in the Zama Unit: Wintershall Dea, Talos Energy Inc., and Harbour Energy plc.

This Plan involves two offshore platforms, drilling and completion of 46 wells, as well as the transportation of the oil and gas produced to the Unit's new onshore facilities at the Dos Bocas Marine Terminal.

​​​​​The Zama Field was discovered in 2017 and fully evaluated in 2019 by the Block 7 Consortium, comprised of Talos, Wintershall Dea, and Harbour. Zama is to be developed to achieve a production capacity of up to 180 thousand barrels per day of API gravity oil between 24 and 27, which represents approximately 10% of the country's current oil production. Hydrocarbon production will be made up of 94% high-quality oil.
Zama is classified as a strategic project by PEMEX and the Mexican Government.
